“Living in an Historical Document…What Does That Mean?” is the title of the Charleroi Area Historical Society's May 16 program.

Do you know whether or not you live in a community that has been awarded such a prestigious designation? Do you know what the criteria are to meet such a classification? Do you know which buildings in the city/town in which you live (or live near) have received landmark status? Do you know what the "dos and don'ts" are for property owners or town officials regarding such landmark buildings or such historic districts?

Whether or not you know the answers, you are invited to participate in a discussion on this topic with Terry Necciai, Preservation Architect/Architect Historian and resident of Monongahela on Monday, May 16. Mr. Necciai is eager to educate all interested persons with the information needed to help us be responsible stewards of the historical districts in which or near we live.

The Charleroi Area Historical Society sponsors programs of historical and public interest on the third Monday of the month, March through November. Meetings are held in 301 Riverside Place of the SPHS building (formerly Montgomery Ward) in the Chamber Plaza, Charleroi. Turn right at the intersection of Fifth and McKean Aves. Look for directional signs at the intersection and in the Plaza.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments are served. For more information, call the Society's headquarters at 724-483-4961 (the historic Gaoziou Print Shop) or Ken Thompson, program coordinator, at 724-925-1742.
