The following schedule of events was released by the Oliver Miller Homestead.

 Opening Day

Come to the Miller Homestead on opening day for 2016 on Sunday, May 1, from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. and meet the Millers.

Mary and Oliver Miller will greet you in the barn and give you a brief history of their family and their move west to their present home on Catfish Run.

The Miller children, now adults, will greet you around the grounds and give you their personal reflections on the trip west and their individual experiences and skills.  Hear about the dangers of the trip and the difficulties of clearing the land and planting fields and gardens.  You will also learn about the use of herbs for medicines and for cooking and the sources of food and cooking methods.  The sons will share their experiences as part of the militia during the Revolutionary War.

Entrance fee for this special event is $2. For more information, check our web site at www.olivermillerhomestead.org.

Fibers, Fabrics and Fashions

In the eighteenth century, clothing your family was a year-round job that involved all of the members of the family.

On Sunday, May 15, from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. the docents of the Oliver Miller Homestead, located just off the circle on Corrigan Drive in South Park, will demonstrate and display the fibers, fabrics, and fashions that the Millers would have used.

Sheep will be shorn with hand shears, and the steps needed to produce wool from carding to spinning will be demonstrated, as will the process of planting and turning flax into linen.  A variety of fabrics will be on display as well as quilts that demonstrate the techniques and patterns of the time.

At 3 p.m., you may view a fashion show of the types of clothing worn by various classes and ages of those living in the eighteenth century.

Docents will be present around the grounds to answer your questions and to give information about the Miller family.

Visit the website, www.olivermillerhomestead.org, for more information about this and other events.
