The Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) recently issued a $25,000 grant from its Acorn Fund to Washington City Mission to assist it in rebuilding after a June 2015 fire did extensive damage to the Mission’s facilities.

Judge Thomas D. Gladden, chairman of the WCCF Allocations and Programs Committee, presented a check to the Mission’s president and CEO, Dean Gartland, and Dr. Sally Mounts, director of development, on May 19.
Dr. Mounts said that the grant not only is welcome as a boost to rebuilding efforts but also as a symbol of the continuing strong relationship between the Mission and WCCF.
“WCCF is a stellar foundation that benefits every charity and nonprofit in Washington County. As longtime partners with WCCF, we are thrilled to receive this grant,” she said.
“It is already at work to help fund our new programs building. Programs are at the heart of our work here at City Mission.”
The programs office will house the Mission’s program staff and classroom, a new chapel and a state-of-the-art computer facility. The Mission’s programs, which include recovery and employment interventions, help to move its clients from homelessness to independent living.
The Mission hosted a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 29 to dedicate its men’s residence building.
“We are happy to be in a position to assist Washington City Mission,” said WCCF President and CEO Betsie Trew. “This was a special grant for a special circumstance and illustrates the importance of our Acorn Fund in addressing our community’s most pressing needs. An important component of our strategic plan is to increase the value of the Acorn Fund so that we may increase our ability to address community needs.”
