Carroll Township Board of Supervisors began making plans for regulation of medical marijuana in the township at the May 2 supervisors meeting.

The Board requested that Solicitor Herman Bigi begin the process of drafting an ordinance that will enable township officials to monitor and regulate the production and distribution of medical marijuana in Carroll Township.

Pennsylvania became the 24th U.S. state to legalize cannabis for approved medical purposes in April 2016. The state will issue licenses for the production and sale of marijuana, and the borough must be prepared to monitor the activity to ensure the safety of borough residents.

In other business, the Supervisors awarded the bid for this year’s paving projects to El Grande, who offered a bid of $83,570.08, lower than two other local business’ bids.
