On August 14 at 7 p.m., the South Park Board of Supervisors held their monthly board meeting and discussed the following topics.

  • The public hearing concerning the tentative planned residential development, located on Snowden Rd., has been rescheduled from August 14, 2017 at 6 p.m. to Monday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m.
  • The next Board of Supervisors meeting, which will be held on September 11, has been moved to a later time due to the September 11 event that will be held that evening. The public hearing regarding the transit oriented overlay development will begin at 8 and the regular meeting will immediately follow the public hearing.
  • The two agreements between SHACOG and South Park Township, which define the terms and conditions for administration of the projects identified as the Highland Ave. Storm Sewer Project and the Grant Street Area Storm Inlet Rehabilitation Project, were approved.

Additionally, The Board approved of the Memorandum of Understanding, by and between the Allegheny County Conservation District and South Park Township, which is a joint agreement to control erosion and prevent sediment pollution. The memorandum will also serve as a basis for stating the role of each party in administering municipal ordinances in relation to erosion and sediment pollution control, as well as MS4 permit compliance.

Authorization was given by the Board for the preparation and advertisement, for the amendment of an ordinance that will prohibit the parking of construction trailers, truck trailers, trailers, motor homes, buses, boats, boat trailers, portable storage units, etc. on any of the Township’s roadways.

A few training requests have been scheduled for some of the Township’s officers. Sgt. Shannon Henrich and Officer Brian Rucienski will be attending “Close Quarter Combat” and “Patrol Rifle Instructor.” Officer Richard Griffith will be attending the 2017 Pennsylvania State Collision Reconstruction Seminar.

The Library Director, Amanda DeKnight, will be attending the 2017 Pennsylvania Library Conference on October 15-18, which will be held in Pittsburgh, at a cost of $345.

A payment request submitted by Lawson Excavating, in the amount of $81,900, for the project identified as the 2017 Point Repair Contract, was approved.

The following are some of the latest developments for this month’s MS4 Report, regarding the stormwater systems in the Township.

  • South Park Township was audited by DEP with regards to MS4 and will receive a report from DEP within 30 days.
  • The next MS4 permit is due by Sept. 16, 2017.
  • At current, approximately 1,100 inlets have been identified and about 500 have been evaluated.
  • Action will be taken at the September board meeting to schedule an informational meeting about MS4 for the general public, which will most likely be held in October.
  • Residents can assist with MS4 by cleaning up after pets or limiting the use of pesticides.
  • South Park will be holding their creek clean-up on Saturday, September 16, at 9 a.m.
