Bridges to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership:

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project continues in Allegheny County with the reconstruction of five bridges beginning in late May and mid June.  Two of the bridges scheduled for reconstruction are located in Elizabeth Township.

The Mill Hill Road Bridge over Wylie Run (JV423) in Elizabeth Township closed the week of May 23.  Traffic will be detoured using Mill Hill Road to SR 48 to SR 2010. Construction will take approximately five weeks to complete. The bridge was built in 1930 and averages 1,580 vehicles a day.

The West Smithfield Street Bridge over an unnamed creek (JV427) in Elizabeth Township is scheduled to close the week of May 30. Traffic will be detoured using SR 2018 to SR 2025 to SR 48. Construction will take approximately five weeks to complete. The bridge was built in 1930 and averages 1,594 vehicles a day.

The bridge replacements are part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists. To see the bridges included in the statewide initiative and to learn more about the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project and P3 in Pennsylvania, visit www.P3forPA.pa.gov. Additional information on the project, the team and how to bid on the project can be found at www.PARapidBridges.com.
