To celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss and his contributions to reading, students in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 participated in a week-long battle of books.

Two classrooms were pitted against each other, and each room began with four different books that were read tournament-style. Winning books were determined by student votes. The top winning book was revealed when guest readers visited. Guests included school board members as well as National Honor Society students.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students competed in a month-long battle to read the most minutes. Students kept a journal logging how much time they spend reading both at school and at home. The class with the highest number of minutes in each grade level was rewarded with a popcorn party.
