On Monday, April 18, Mount Vernon of Elizabeth Assisted Living welcomed Rick Saccone to sit in on one of their music therapy sessions.

Every month, a music therapist comes into the memory care unit and helps the residents to relive moments of their life through the melody of music. She plays instruments for the residents and sometimes dims the lights so that the full effect of the experience is felt. This is a very quiet and personal time for them and visitors are encouraged to honor that.
This monthly event has been recurring for several months now, and the director of the wing says she plans on continuing it. Mr. Rick Saccone had heard about these sessions and it raised his interest, so he decided to make a visit to see how everything came together. This particular month, Lisa Wisniewski, Director of Bridge to Rediscovery and Memory Care Unit Coordinator, also welcomed Leslie Ray, regional director of operations, Kathy Clark, executive director; and Pat Tylka, marketing director.
On Wednesday, April 20, the memory care unit once again opened their doors and welcomed in students from the Tri-M Music Honor Society from Elizabeth Forward High School. Students presented donated mp3 players and headphones to the some of the residents of the wing. They also showed them how to use the players and spent time interacting with them in a caring and understanding capacity that they seemed to appreciate.
