The Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce shines its spotlight on the United Way of Mon Valley this month.

The United Way was organized by citizens in our communities in 1961 to help meet the human care needs of the people of the Mid-Mon Valley. The United Way provides leadership and financial support for local programs through the Impact Fund concentrating on three key areas: education, income and health.

Through the United Way’s River Fund they have supported local communities with matching grants for playground equipment. The United Way has also helped to fund the Mon Valley Education Consortium and local food banks through proceeds from the 84 Lumber Golf Classic.

The United Way has provided grants for agencies in the areas of childcare, early intervention, afterschool programs and student scholarships. They also help with adult daycare, in home services for the aging and assistance for individuals and families with drug and alcohol issues. The United Way is most proud of their 2-1-1 programs which match individuals in need for rent, food, healthcare and veteran’s needs. The United Way is governed by a local Board of Directors with a strong diverse background and exceeds all guidelines and standards set forth by United Way Worldwide.
