In 1975, Australian family physician Paul Lam, M.D., began practicing tai chi as a way to improve his own arthritis. He has since become a world leader in the field of tai chi for health improvement and will bring his vast knowledge of this healing practice to local residents.

 

Tai Chi - Lam Paul

A tai chi talk and demonstration event will be held on Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at the Bethel Park Community Center, located at 5151 Park Ave.

Jose Ramirez-Del Toro, M.D., of The Orthopedic Group, welcomes Dr. Lam, founder and director of the internationally renowned Tai Chi for Health Institute, to discuss why doctors recommend tai chi, an ancient, slow and gentle movement practice to promote wellness, aid rehabilitation and prevent falls.

The doctors will discuss the relationship of health and wellness practices to quality of life. Scientific studies show that tai chi helps chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes, and that it also improves balance, prevents falls and reduces stress. More importantly, tai chi is an enjoyable form of exercise that people of any age can learn and practice.

Following a question and answer period, Dr. Lam will lead the audience in some basic tai chi exercises.
