RiverRide100 Enters its 3rd Year; Hopes to Boost Participation

This year marks an exciting transition for RiverRide 100, an annual bike fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 12.

With the addition of multiple “starting points” between Rockwood, PA and Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh, participants can join the ride for distances ranging from 9 to 106 miles; so anyone of any age or fitness level can participate.

What began a couple of years ago as a small group of friends riding bikes to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation has evolved into an event in which anyone can participate. Riders will have the option to join the event at multiple points along the Great Allegheny Passage, including in Connellsville, PA (a 59-mile journey), Boston, PA (20 miles), or Homestead, PA (9 miles).

The bike fundraiser began in 2013, when a group of nine bike riders traveled from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. over five days and raised more than $6,000 in just two weeks. Last year, their group raised more than $6,500 when they decided to challenge themselves further by riding a “century” ride of more than 100 miles in one day from Rockwood to downtown Pittsburgh.

The ride is being sponsored by Krakoff Communications, Inc. and Steelcoast Creative, whose founders, Jeff Krakoff and Scott Bowlin, respectively, are participating in the ride.
