Library News

Castle Shannon Library recently announced the following July Events.

Summer Reading Club for Kids & Teens:
This year’s theme – Ready, Set, Read! – will explore health, fitness, the Olympics, and movement and will encourage children and teens to participate in these activities through books, crafts, games, and many more special summer activities! Each age group will have a weekly meeting. Age groups include Little Dribblers (Birth – age 3), Sprinters (Pre-K – grade 2), Hurdlers (grades 3 - 5), and Major Leaguers (grades 6 – 12). Track your reading to receive fun and exciting prizes!

Outdoor Games:
We will be playing various games including relay races, ladder ball, hopscotch, corn hole, and more! Note: this program will be canceled in the event of rain or inclement weather. Monday – Friday, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Family Movie Night:
Bring your family to the Library for a movie night. We will be showing new releases and classics throughout the year with plenty of movies for everyone to enjoy. Light snacks will be provided. Showtimes: 6:30 p.m. on July 5 and July 19.

Games through the Ages:
Kids are kids! They have always found ways to play and learn. This family program introduces families to the games that have been played throughout different decades. Tuesday, July 12, 6:30 p.m.

Cooking Fun: Children, tweens, and teens are invited to the library to learn how to make some delicious snacks and meals. Registration is required to make sure enough supplies are purchased. Tuesday, July 26, 6:30 p.m.

Adult Summer Reading at the Castle Shannon Library:
This year’s theme is Exercise Your Mind. Reading books and attending programs will give you a chance to win an Amazon Kindle Fire. The reading program will run until August 5th.

Yoga Classes at the Library:
Health Thru YOGA, located at 3926 Willow Ave., is coming to the Castle Shannon Library! We will offer one-hour sessions led by one of their skilled instructors. The cost per class is $10. All classes are from 1:30pm-2:30 p.m. and are held on Mondays in the lower level of the Library. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mat. Pre-registration and advanced payment required.

New Release Movie Night:
Come to the Library on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. to watch this film that is based on an incredible true story that stars Jennifer Garner and Queen Latifah on our BIG screen. A young girl suffering from a rare digestive disorder finds herself miraculously cured after surviving a terrible accident. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is preferred.

Crafternoons for Adults and Seniors at the Library:
Join us the third Wednesday of each month for Crafternoons. We will meet downstairs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Bring your best craft ideas with you. This is an informal gathering and a chance to meet new people and learn new craft ideas. Adults ages 18 and over welcome. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, July 20. If you cannot make it in the afternoon, stop by between 6 – 8 p.m. that night!
