Library News

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center is participating in the “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” Summer Reading experience, which explores topics from sports to nutrition, to fun movements to get children active and learning.

The children’s schedule for July 2016 is:
• Saturday, July 2, “Red, White and Move”, at 11 a.m., with 4th of July themed activities to get kids exercising and active.
• Monday, July 4 – Library is closed for the observance of Independence Day.
• Wednesday, July 6, “Get Moving”, at 11 a.m. YouTube videos to get toddlers exercising through movement.
• Wednesday, July 6, “Wacky Wednesdays” for teens, at 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, July 9, “Animal Yoga Day”, at 11 a.m. Animal-themed yoga activity.
• Monday, July 11, “Mother Goose Olympics”, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. A rhyming Olympic game to enjoy.
• Wednesday, July 13, “Building With Letters”, at 11 a.m. Building words with letter blocks for toddlers.
• Wednesday, July 13, “Wacky Wednesdays” for teens, at 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, July 16, “Fitness Circuit”, at 11 a.m. Children participate in an outdoor fitness game.
• Monday, July 18, “Summer Reading Finish Line Picnic”, at 5 p.m., in Monessen City Park, for those registered in the Summer Reading program.
• Wednesday, July 20, “Toddler Time”, at 11 a.m.
• Monday, July 25, “Nature Scavenger Hunt”, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Children will learn to appreciate the outdoors through a series of nature-themed activities.
• Wednesday, July 27, “Water Play Day” for toddlers, at 11 a.m.
• Saturday, July 30, “Build a Boat”, at 11 a.m. Children will build their own boat and float it.

Starting Saturday, July 2, the Library summer hours for Saturday will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., until after Labor Day.

The Mon Valley Genealogy Forum will meet on Monday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m. New members are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. New websites will be discussed, as well as genealogy in the news.
