Pleasant Hills Public Library Announces September Programs.

Adult Programs:

 Bring your opinions and observations to the Pleasant Hills Library Conversation Salon on Friday, September 4 from 1-3 pm.   Various topics of interest discussed.   Newcomers invited and encouraged to participate.  Refreshments served. 

The Writers Group meets on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m.  Writers in any genre are invited to participate.  Group provides support and incisive critique for professional and amateur writers.  Bring a sample piece of writing to the meeting or write a story from the point of view of a television remote control.

Join the fall Wise Walk Program on Wednesday, September 9 at 9 a.m.  with an informational meeting in the Library, followed by a walk along Corrigan Drive in South Park.  For the remaining 9 weeks of the program  the group will meet in the Children’s Playground parking lot at South Park at 9:30 a.m.  Participants walk with a group at their own pace and distance.   Contact the Library at 412-655-2424 or gealys@einetwork.net to register or for more information.

 Back by popular demand, a Genealogy Lock-in will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 3-5 p.m., presented by Teena Hintz.  Get the latest information on genealogy websites and researching strategies then enjoy an hour of uninterrupted computer time after Library hours with access to ancestry.com.  Space limited; registration required.

The Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Club will meet on Monday, September 14 at 1 p.m. to discuss The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler.  Extra copies of the book available at the front desk.

A new Tai Chi class will begin on Wednesday, September 16 from 6:30-8 p.m.  Class is suitable for beginners and experienced students.  The 8-week class will be taught by Judy Crow. Fee is $50 payable at the first class.  Registration is required.

Book Talk with Dr. Jack Aupperle will review A Lucky Life Interrupted by Tom Brokaw on Friday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Pleasant Hills Library Program Room.

The Evening Book Group meets Monday September 21 at 7 p.m. to discuss Landline by Rainbow Rowell.  Newcomers welcome.   Extra copies of the book are available at the front desk. 

How prepared is your family for an emergency?  Come to the Emergency Preparedness Class sponsored by The Red Cross on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. 

Curious about 3D printing?  See a printer in action and learn about the technology involved on Tuesday, September 29 at 6:30 p.m.  Presented by Aaron Hortman of Steel City 3D Printing.

Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, August 4 – October 13 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. NO STORYTIME SEPTEMBER 8. Explore different themes through stories, songs, crafts, and a snack. For children ages 3 ½ to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Baby Book Nook: Wednesdays, August 5 – October 14 at 10:30 a.m. Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Tot Time: Thursdays, August 6 – October 15 at 10:30 a.m. Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack. For children ages 2 to 3 ½ years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Evening Baby Book Nook: Tuesday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Join Miss Terry in the evening for nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

PJ Family Story Time – Elephants Never Forget:  Monday, September 14 at 7 p.m. Elephants never forget to bring their library card to the library. Find out what else elephants never forget with stories, songs, a craft, and a delicious snack. Wear your PJs and bring a stuffed friend to join in the fun. Family program. Taco Tuesdays: Middle School Book Discussion: Tuesday, September 15 at 6 p.m. Join Miss Terry for lively discussion and delicious snacks. This month we will be reading Alida’s Song by Gary Paulsen. Anime Club: Thursday, September 17 at 4 p.m. Do you enjoy anime and manga? Come talk with fellow fans, watch some anime, try some Japanese snacks, and learn about new and interesting titles. For teens in grades 6 – 12. No registration necessary.

Pirate Party: Saturday, September 19 at 2 p.m. Yarr, September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Get into the pirate spirit with stories, games, crafts, and some delectable grub. Family program. Please register.

Preschool Stem: Up In The Air: Monday, September 21 at 3:15 p.m. Explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with stories and hands-on activities designed to engage young minds. 1940s GAMES FOR KIDS: Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m. Help the library celebrate its 70th anniversary by learning about games that were popular with kids back then. Learn how to play marbles and jacks. Winners can take home their spoils but everyone will get to take home at least one marble. For children in kindergarten – 5th grade. Tail Wagging Tutors: Monday, September 28 at 7 p.m. Trained therapy dogs will be here hoping to hear a story or two. Practice your reading skills while enjoying the company of some furry friends.
