Pleasant Hills Library October Events:

The Pleasant Hills Library will celebrate its 70th anniversary on Saturday, November 7 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese tasting event titled “Hollywood & Wine: 1940s Glamour in Black and White . . .and Reds.” The evening will feature a 1940s Hollywood theme and will include a variety of wines from celebrity vineyards, a souvenir wine glass, a variety of interesting cheeses for pairing, and assorted appetizers and desserts. There will also be a non-alcoholic punch and other beverages for non-drinkers. In addition, the evening will include an art show and sale featuring the works of many talented local artists, Chinese auction, jewelry sale, a live DJ playing music from the ‘40s and more.

Local artists are invited to participate in the art show by returning an entry form to the library by October 21. Forms are available on the website at pleasanthillslibrary.org or in the Library.

Tickets for the event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door and are available in the Library, or on the website using PayPal. All proceeds benefit the Library.

Children and adults are welcome to attend the Library Star Gazing Party on Friday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m.. Amateur astronomers will set up telescopes in Breisenger Field where everyone can enjoy a view of the night sky unencumbered by trees. Registration requested.

The Pleasant Players Readers Theater will perform two old Halloween radio plays on Tuesday, October 20 at 7 p.m. The two episodes are “The Haunted House” episode of The Life of Riley and “Halloween Party” episode of Our Miss Brooks. Miss Brooks plans a Halloween party to cheer up Mr. Conklin the school principal that has the opposite result, and Chester Riley tries to prove to his son, Junior, that ghosts don’t really exist by braving the neighborhood haunted house. Great fun for everyone who enjoyed Radio Theater and those too young to remember.

Adults and children are welcome to an Owl Watch led by Bob Mulvihill on Friday October 23 at 7 p.m. Meet at the West Bruceton entrance to the Arboretum. Bring your binoculars!

There will be a pumpkin-carving workshop on Monday, October 26 at 6 p.m.. Bring your own pumpkin to carve and leave the mess at the library. Evan Gealy, local artist, will present a demonstration on pumpkin carving techniques and provide jack o’ lantern patterns along with tips, suggestions and assistance for doing your own carving. This is a family program. Evan’s hint: The lighter in color the pumpkin the easier it is to carve! Registration requested.
