Library News

The Monongahela Area Library recently announced the following events.

When you are participating in the Historical Society’s Stroll, Shop n’ Sip Event, don’t forget that Monongahela Area Library is a stop on the event trail. Make sure to leave yourselves plenty of time, because we are having a vendor show!

You’ll definitely want to check out our Facebook page for a special announcement designed for patrons registered as Monongahela Area Library patrons only. The announcement will not apply to patrons registered at other Waggin libraries. The announcement will be made on Friday, May 6th.

The library will soon start its seedling project. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates on the progress of the seedlings and for information about their sale dates and pricing. Remember it is not only a community interest and childhood education project, but also a fundraiser for the library. Planting will begin May 5th in the activity room and the seedling trays will be moved to the lobby on May 10th.

Story Time will be offered at two times through the end of April on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Story time is designed for children ages 30 months to 5 years old. Ms. Becky reads to the children and then completes a craft with them.

Color Me Happy Hour is being extended so people have more time for coloring joy! Designed for teens through adults, Color Me Happy Hour is a relaxing hour and a half of creative coloring. We provide free coloring pages of varying complexity as well as crayons, colored pencils, and markers. Come relax and create with us on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.!

Family Block Party! Bring your children to an entertaining night with wooden building blocks. You and your child can work together to build something amazing. Building with blocks helps children develop intellectually and physically. The block party will be held Monday, May 16th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Book Bites will meet on Thursday, May 19th at 1 p.m. The book for May is “I Know This Much is True” by Wally Lamb. All are welcome. If you plan to join in on the discussion and would like the library to get a copy of the book for you, please call us so we can reserve a copy.

The Writers Club will meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. All are welcome. If you are new to the club, please call to make sure they are meeting that day.

The Foster Grandparent Program is a program that is open to volunteers 55 and over who can serve between 15 and 40 hours a week! No formal experience is necessary. Tax-free hourly stipend may be possible for income-eligible volunteers, plus transportation and meal reimbursement. Volunteers support children in Head Start and preschool classrooms, kindergarten through 12th grade, before and after school. This month the Foster Grandparents will meet at Monongahela Area Library on Friday, May 13th from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. with snacks provided.

Monongahela Area Library is looking for a few good men and women to serve as Library Trustees. Library trustees are powerful advocates for libraries. Being a library Trustee is an honor, a privilege, and a duty. Serving as a library trustee is a fun and rewarding way to give back to your community. If you would like to serve as a trustee, please contact the library.
