The Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center recently announced the following events.
Spring Book Sale
The annual Spring Book Sale is underway at Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center. Hardbacks are fifty cents and paperbacks are twenty five cents each.
Learn About eBooks
During the week of May 2-7, Monessen Public Library will be offering one-on-one classes to anyone interested in learning about eBooks. The training will cover accessing, downloading and viewing eBooks through the Overdrive platform. Please bring your device (smartphone, iPad, Kindle, tablet, etc.) with you to the class. No registration is necessary. The classes will be available to the public from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on the days the library is open.
“WestmorelandGives” Day of Giving
Please support the Monessen Public Library on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County will host a “Westmoreland Gives” Day of Giving for Westmoreland County nonprofits on May 3, 2016. From 8 a.m. to midnight, the public will be encouraged to support participating nonprofits through the pittsburghgives.org or westmorelandgives.org donation portal.
Each gift received via the website will receive a portion of the “Westmoreland Gives” match pool on a pro-rated basis.
The minimum donation is $25. Only gifts between $25—$1,000 per donor will count towards the match pool. A credit card must be used to make your donation. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
The Mon Valley Genealogy Forum will meet on Monday, May 16, 2016, at 5:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served. New members welcome! Kathi Swan, local researcher and historian, will discuss her cemetery work in the Mon Valley area.
For our Eightieth Anniversary, the Library is having a contest to see how many people will check out 80 items from Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center during 2016. At the end of the year, the patrons, who become members of the “80 Club”, will be entered in a drawing for a great prize! Start Reading!!!!!

Monday, May 2- National Scrapbooking Day!
Story Time @ 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Book: “Orlando's Little-While Friends: A Scrapbook Story “
This inspiring story is about a small boy learns to conquer shyness and make friends.
Children will create scrapbooks.
Wednesday, May 4 @ 11 a.m. - Toddler Time!
Age-appropriate activities: story board, puppets, creative play, art & music
Wednesday, May 4 @ 6 p.m. - Celebrate Cinco de Mayo!
Story: “Marco’s Cinco de Mayo”
Children will make maracas.
Saturday, May 7 @ 11 a.m. - Celebrating mom with a royal tea time!
Children may dress up as a prince or a princess. Please bring a favorite “Royal Lady” to celebrate tea with. There will be activities and light refreshments.
Story: “Fancy Nancy's Marvelous Mother's Day Brunch”.
Monday, May 9- National Train Day!
Story Time @ 11 am and 6:00 pm: “The Little Train That Could”.
This classic tale will encourage and delight children of all ages. Let’s make a train.

There will not be story times on May 28th or 30th due to the Memorial Day Holiday.
Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2016, for the observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
The Friends of the Library group are selling tickets for a fundraising spaghetti dinner at Felicias Restaurant on Schoonmaker Avenue good on any day in May, except Mother’s Day. Tickets are available for a donation of $9.00. Please note: There are no substitutions, as the ticket is only good for a regular spaghetti dinner. For tickets, please see a Friend of the Library or stop at the Circulation Desk.
