The last and most challenging hurdle in achieving the Eagle rank is a community service project in which the potential Eagle Scout is responsible for all aspects of the venture. Joshua's Eagle project benefited the Calvary Baptist Church in West Mifflin. Josh constructed an outdoor youth ministry area, which consisted of downing and removing six 30-foot pine trees; outlining and covering a 20 ft. x 24 ft. area with gravel; and constructing 12 concrete benches and a 4 ft. x 8 ft. wooden deck.

At the Honors ceremony, Joshua received many letters and awards from national, state, and local leaders and dignitaries who could not be present. There were two local individuals who attended and spoke for their organizations.

Sgt. Otis Dicerbo, West Mifflin AFJROTC (of which Josh was a leading cadet), and Eugene Eckman from the BPOE Pittsburgh South Hills Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, were both present. Mr. Eckman presented the new Eagle Scout with two certificates, one from the local Bethel Park Lodge and one from the Grand Lodge in Chicago.
