Greydon Tomkowitz and Alexander Wolfe of Boy Scout Troop 4 received recognition for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony held at St. Louise de Marillac Church in Upper Saint Clair on Sunday, May 20, attended by family and friends.

The last and most challenging hurdle in achieving this very prestigious highest scout rank is a community service project, in which the potential Eagle Scout is responsible for all aspects of the undertaking.

Greydon's Eagle project benefited the South Hills Miracle League, a non-profit organization that hosts a baseball league for special needs children. The project involved planting shade trees around the perimeter of the adapted baseball field, building shelving for a storage shed, and constructing a bulletin board and line-up board for use during games.

Alexander's Eagle project benefited Allegheny County Parks and Recreation. It consisted of building a retaining wall, landscaping efforts and installing benches at the Children's Theater in South Park.

Both new Eagles received many letters of recognition and congratulations from national, state, and local leaders and dignitaries who could not be present at the event. Attending and representing the BPOE Pittsburgh South Hills Lodge 2213 was Eugene Eckman. Mr. Eckman honored and recognized the young men by presenting both with two framed award certificates, one from the Bethel Park Lodge 2213 and one from the Grand Lodge in Chicago. He also gave each new Eagle a personal silk U.S. flag and a small gold lapel pin, which represents the close relationship between the two organizations for 80+ years.
