Local People

Jason Yanyo and Peter Kutschke each achieved the rank of Eagle Scout recently, and received recognition and certificates of merit from the Elks at Troop 510's regular weekly meeting on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Eugene Eckman, Leading Knight, from Elks Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park gave a short motivational talk to the troop and presented each of the new Eagles with two framed awards, one from the local lodge and one from the Grand Lodge in Chicago, Illinois. He also read a personal letter from the Grand Exalted Ruler to each of the new Eagles. The final two items he presented was a personal size silk American Flag and a small gold lapel pin representing 80+ years of relationship between the two organizations.

The final and most challenging hurdle toward achievement of this highest rank in scouting is a community service project in which the potential Eagle is responsible for all aspects of the undertaking to include planning, funding, labor management, implementation and presenting the final written detailed report to the judging committee.

Jason Yanyo completed an Eagle Project that benefited the Elementary Center of South Park. He and his work crew of volunteers refurbished a butterfly garden at the center. They removed old plants and mulch, put down new landscaping fabric and mulch, added new butterfly plants, re-topped benches and put up information signs.

Peter Kutschke’s Eagle Project benefited the St. Anne's School in Castle Shannon. He and his work crew of volunteers built an outside library for the playground area, as well as a new school sign for the parking lot. Peter also went to local libraries for book donations for the new outdoor library.
