The Monessen City Park Amphitheater Committee is in the planning stages to host a regional 9/11 memorial event on September 11, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Monessen City Park Amphitheater.

The event has several purposes: To remember those first responders and individuals who lost their lives in the tragic 2001 attack, and to remember all of those people who were affected by the event on a personal level. It will also be a way to say “Thank You” to local veterans, law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and others who serve the public.

The Amphitheater Committee is encouraging all local municipalities to come together, remember the tragic event, celebrate our accomplishments, and enjoy each other’s company as a community. A formal service will be put together with musical selections, readings, and remarks from local government officials. The committee welcomes any and all local service organizations, churches, fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, government officials, and individuals to participate in the ceremony. Input is welcome.

The event is for the entire Mon Valley and all of its residents. Following the ceremony, the Mon Valley Community Band will perform a set of music. The committee is looking for donations and sponsors to host a community picnic in the park following the ceremony as well. Letters are being sent various local entities; however, all are welcome to participate, even if a letter was not receivedfrom the committee.

Please find the Monessen City Park Amphitheater Committee on Facebook or on the web at www.monessenamphitheater.com, or contact us via email at monessenamphitheater@gmail.com.
