Pastor Kevin Young of First Presbyterian Church of Finleyville has announced that a memorial service will be held, in conjunction with the regular worship service, at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 14 at the church, located at 3595 Washington Ave. in Finleyville for the three members of Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department who perished as a result of an accident while responding to a call 50 years ago.

On September 13, 1964, while responding to assist at a fire at the old Company Store in Hill Station, the fire truck, carrying a full crew, went off the roadway and rolled on a bend on Bebout Road in Peters Township. Finleyville firemen Arvin Kegel, John Stark and Roy Simmons lost their lives while other members on the truck sustained injuries ranging from minor to life-changing. The incident has been deemed as the most tragic event to ever occur in the history of this small Washington County community.

The service is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. A luncheon will be served immediately following in the social hall of Finleyville Fire Department.
