The Charleroi Rotary Club members received a visit from 7330 District Governor Mark Kessler on Wednesday, July 23. Governor Mark was accompanied by his wife Sue and they enjoyed a productive exchange of ideas with the members regarding club activities and programs supported by Rotary International.

The District Governor has charged the members of all clubs in his district to "have fun" while continuing with their various projects in their communities and for the international organization. Accompanying Mr. and Mrs. Kessler was Mrs. Cherie Sears, of the California Rotary Club, who serves as the Assistant Governor for District 7330.

Secretary John Helfenstein noted that he had been in touch with Vince Vaccaro regarding the annual club picnic. The date will be announced and all family members are welcome to attend.

On August 6, the club welcomed new member Kevin Roberts. Reverend Roberts is the pastor of the First Baptist Church, located in North Charleroi. He has instituted many activities with his own congregation and looks forward to working with Rotary.

Long-time member Robert Lettrich filled members in on some history of the Charleroi club. He noted that one of the first women to join the group was Cora Ducouer, and that allowing women to join caused some temporary discord in Rotary as it had in other service and community organizations. Also, Rotary International now has approximately 30,000 clubs located in 160 countries around the world. The discussion concluded with a reminder of the five areas of service in Rotary and a recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test. The questions posed by this test are regarded by members as guiding principles to be utilized when making decisions within clubs as well as when conducting business between clubs.

The Charleroi Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at the Back Porch restaurant in Lower Speers. Meetings begin at noon and are held in the Side Door meeting rooms. New members are welcome.
