The Amphitheater Committee held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their newly renovated site at Monessen City Park on Friday, August 22. It incorporated music, food, speeches, and the history of the amphitheater itself.

Leading up to the 6 p.m. ribbon cutting, the Valley Chordsmen performed at 5:30 p.m., singing barbershop-type songs a cappella. They sang such hits as "Can you feel the love tonight?" They also dedicated one to those serving our country: "God bless America."

Next the ribbon-cutting ceremony began. First, Cal U of PA Choir Members performed, singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Matt Shorraw, Amphitheater Committee president, spoke about the history of the amphitheater and all the work he put into its renovation, beginning back in 2013.

Committee Vice President Jackie Pierce spoke, stating, "We really want to promote the arts and want this to be a family thing," she said. State Rep. Ted Harhai added, "The activities venue is for everyone - young and old."

With that, the group cut the white ribbon.

Afterward, there was more entertainment. The Monessen High School Marching Band performed, and Hot Headed Mike and the Half-Baked Jazz Band played, proving for just what kind of great music the amphitheater was built.

Shorraw ended the night by stating, "We are always open to events and new members. You can like us on Facebook."
