Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) has released the results of its recent web-based “Clicks for Cash” contest for charities registered to participate in WCCF Gives – Washington County’s official day of giving on September 9.

Members of the community were encouraged to participate by visiting www.wccfgives.org and clicking on the charity profile pages of their favorite WCCF Gives participants during a seven-day contest window in June. The WCCF tracked the unique page views of each charity’s profile page to determine a winner. Each unique page view was counted as a vote for that charity.

Receiving a total of 700 votes during the contest period, Citizens Library Association of Washington, PA secured the grand prize: a $1,000 unrestricted grant from the Acorn Fund. This is the second consecutive year that Citizens has clinched the top spot in the contest.

All other participating charities were entered into a computerized lottery for an opportunity to receive one of four $500 Acorn Fund grants. The charities received one chance in the lottery for each vote they received in the contest. The Literacy Council of Southwestern PA, Charleroi Area Historical Society, Bradford House Historical Association, and Washington County Gay Straight Alliance were randomly selected as the lottery winners.

The grants were presented to representatives from each of the five winning charities at the recent annual meeting of the WCCF’s Board of Trustees. Citizens Library plans to use its $1,000 “Clicks for Cash” grant for two computers for patrons.

“The ‘Clicks for Cash’ Contest was designed to encourage our participating charities to practice rallying their supporters via low-cost marketing campaigns. We have seen that the charities who utilize technology, such as targeted email messages and social media posts, are able to generate votes in the contest both quickly and efficiently,” stated Betsie Trew, WCCF President & CEO. She continued, “We hope that all of our WCCF Gives charities will use their experiences from the contest to develop a customized marketing strategy that will help them to reach, or exceed, their [future] fundraising goals.”
