Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) announced today that Donora Borough has been awarded a grant totaling $49,950 from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

Offered specifically for financially distressed communities, these funds are being provided through the DCED’s Early Intervention Program (EIP) to allow Donora Borough to hire financial consultants to help develop and implement a five-year financial management plan and strategy. The EIP plan will cost $55,000 to implement, with Donora Borough only being responsible for $5,500. The grant will cover the rest.

“I would personally like to thank everyone from Donora Borough who was involved in qualifying to receive this funding,” said Cook. “First and foremost, implementing this Early Intervention Program will not take budgeting power away from elected borough officials, punish them for past budgetary decisions or otherwise sacrifice local sovereignty. Instead, it will provide them with the fundamental financial tools necessary to cooperatively build a solid economic foundation that will benefit local families and our region’s job creators for years to come.”
