Donora Council welcomed Rep. Bud Cook for an overview on the planned expenditures of city’s grant money.

On Dec. 13, 2018, Donora Council reviewed the Borough’s Proposed 2019 Budget. Finance Chairperson Edward Parquette read the proposed plans to be approved at a special end of the month meeting. Council made progress on this year’s budget and there will be no tax increase. The budget will be on display in the Borough Office and Donora Public Library.

Guest speaker, PA. State Rep. Bud Cook reported the good news on two major grants for the borough. Donora was awarded a $50,000 grant in association with the Monongahela Valley Corridor Trail Study. In addition, with the $50,000 DCED contract awarded last year, this will allow the Borough to complete the $100,000 feasibility study of connecting all the proposed little towns with biking and walking trails.

Cook thanked council on a job well done to receive grants. “Donora took the lead in these 2 grants,” said Cook. “I’m very proud of Donora…The park needed a bike trail, and we need to reach out and get the community involved…. We’re excited and look forward to future grants.” The two major sites to benefit from the funds are Palmer Park in Donora and the city of Cokeburg.

In the Donora Mayor James McDouugh’s report, he concluded by commending the street department in taking down a building recently and added his resolve on continuing to fight blight in the city. Then he wished everyone Happy Holidays and mentioned work that the Borough Building is having done, too.
