Carroll Township Board of Supervisors held its monthly meeting May 7 and approved a resolution in support of the current Local Share Account (LSA) grant program.

The LSA program, which is funded by casino gaming revenues, began in Washington County in 2008 and has provided millions of dollars in grant money to communities for economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects.

State Representative Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) is seeking co-sponsors for legislation that would require the portion of LSA money used for Department of Community Economic Development (DCED) grants for county public interest projects to be distributed directly to Washington County school districts to provide tax relief for homeowners.

According to the township supervisors, the many projects that have been accomplished with the LSA funding throughout the county may not have otherwise been completed, including major sewage projects. Funding for such projects would have to be funded by taxpayers.

Vice Chairman James Harrison has given his written support to a supervisors’ committee that has been formed in the county in support of the current LSA program.

In other business, the township has announced a change to yard waste collection. It will now be curbside pickup only due to current problems with people dumping large tree branches, trees, and roots. The program was not intended to include large landscaping debris.

Residents and non-residents are being informed that cameras are currently being utilized. If anyone who is a non-resident to Carroll Township is seen dumping material at the Municipal Building, they will be issued a citation.
