New Eagle Borough Council held its July 2 monthly meeting and discussed issues they have been encountering with rental inspections and occupancy permits .
According to the council, an increased number of property owners seeking to rent their properties are not making the necessary improvements or meeting the standards that the inspector is detailing for them. When the inspector returns to inspect for the approval of the property, the changes are not being made, and oftentimes, the landlord is not present as is required for the inspection.
These property owners are causing the inspector to come to the same properties on multiple occasions, wasting time and borough money, according to the borough. Council also notes that the rental residents are often moving into the properties without occupancy permits having been granted. Council has asked the borough solicitor, Tim Berggren, to help in the legal solutions to the issue.
Also at the meeting, Monongahela Police Chief Kevin Harris announced that police patrols for speeding have increased since the last meeting when residents discussed areas in the borough where an increase in patrols was necessary.
