Carroll Township Board of Supervisors approved the 2020 budget at the December 3 regular meeting. The budget was set at $1.77 million with a millage increase from .0862 to 1.034 for residents.
The slight millage increase is necessary just to remain solvent, according to the township secretary, Sharon Cramer. The township has had small increases in taxes due to on-going tax losses attributed to residential and business tax appeals after the county reassessment. One larger tax loss was the Residence at Hilltop, which obtained tax-exempt status, costing the township $8,000 in yearly tax revenue.
The budget also includes a $40,705 increase as the Minimum Municipal Obligation (MMO) for the Carroll Township Police Pension Plan. The contribution was never necessary in prior years because of a grant the township had received, which required no contribution from the township previously.
The supervisors also approved the MMO for the Carroll Township Non-Uniformed Pension Plan in the amount of $137,053.
In other business, the board approved the Mon Valley Alliance AFIG Grant Application for the purchase of a 2020 electric Chevrolet Bolt for use by the borough.
The first meeting of next year will be held on Monday, January 6 at 6:00 pm and will include the township organization meeting.
