The Belle Vernon Borough meeting on February 9 began with Mayor Gerold Jackson swearing in Clifford Gorsky as councilman.  He was voted to Council last month. At this meeting, he was on the job, participating and ready to begin new business. Congratulations are in order.

Belle Vernon Mayor Gerold Jackson (left) welcomes Cliff Gorsky to his Council seat  after he was voted to Council last month.

With the hearing of concerns from public, one resident who owned property for over two years had no proof of it, as she had not received her deed. Council agreed to investigate her claim.

In other business, the mayor mentioned that future work is planned on State Route 906 between Webster and Fayette City. The road may be closed for about a year. PennDOT will perform the construction, though no firm schedule has been set. The project will not likely begin until next year.

The mayor's report confirmed that they would need to send someone to the Borough's Conference in April, held in Lancaster. The mayor also said that Mr. Gorsky will be an asset to the borough with his grant-writing experience. The trade shows have valuable information, including grant writing, said the mayor.

An upcoming children's event was put into motion by Parks and Recreation at the meeting.  An Easter egg hunt will be held on March 28 at 1 p.m. at the J. E. "Ted" Kuhn Park on Main St., Belle Vernon.   Council member Shaun DeLaini will head up the event.
