At a recent Elizabeth Township Council meeting, the Parks and Recreation Board announced the hire of 7 more employees to maintain the community center. They stated 5 just wasn't enough and they had 7 people show interest in the job, so they hired all of them.

The Board is looking for a donation of a card table so that the senior citizens can play bingo, do puzzles, and other afternoon activities. Three grants were given for the board to use from Senator Brewster's office. Donations are also being accepted.

The township is also looking into evening activities for the community youth and so far has scheduled a fall festival on October 24th and the Halloween parade on October 31st at 5 p.m.

The road department has finally finished the Fleming Field project, but the excavator hasn't come in yet, so they have been given one to borrow until theirs does. The department is looking for two more employees to hire because of the amount of work that needs to be done.

John Castine recommends documenting everything that goes into the county storm drains, as the MS4 Inspection that was completed will be routine. Paul Mackey informed the board that the work on Happy Hollow is complete, just waiting on the paving and millings. Schweitzer has been completed as well, and yard repair work at the community center has been done. Work on the front yard of the municipal building needs to be done because it keeps sinking and it must be leveled in preparation for the ice skating rink this winter.

Code Enforcement Officer John Snelson states that the appeal from the Allegheny Diamond Services has been withdrawn for the zoning board. Grey Waste Management has been continuing the work on the demolitions and has received an updated list. The gas work at 2842 Greenock-Buena Vista Road has been completed and restored, as it was sharing a gas line with a demolished home. The DEP, Army Corp of Engineers, and Manager Faulk met with John and discussed the earth-moving issues at the Boston Boat Launch and why there was a boat launch in the first place, as there were no permits issued and they are addressing that situation. Mr. Snelson also stated that the addressing of the violations at 5911 Roslyn Street has been completed after numerous court hearings.

In policing news, Chief Kerestes of the police department stated that there are 9 applicants set up for oral interviews. One of the officers was rear-ended on Rt. 48 and although the officer is okay, the car will need some repairs. President Francesconi commended Kerestes on the job the officers did with the bank robbery. He also states that they have been working hard of getting rid of the "junk" vehicles throughout the township.

The management states that they received a grant through the McKeesport Hospital Foundation for $3,600 to purchase 2 AEDs. One will be placed at the municipal building while the other one will be placed at the community center.

Council also passed a number of motions before adjourning the meeting.
