Municipal News

By J.R. Brower

At their regularly scheduled meeting on February 15, the Nottingham Township Board of Supervisors announced that, in order to pay for planned expansion of the Municipal Complex, the township has secured a loan in the form of a general obligation note from Washington Financial not to exceed $580,000.

The action is pursuant to the Local Government Unit Debt Act, and details have been spelled out in a proposed ordinance (number 109) to be enacted after bids are selected for the building project later this spring.

The loan proposal from Washington Financial was accepted by the supervisors at their December 15 meeting. Work will include construction of an addition to the existing Public Works garage as well as a road salt barn close by.

Supervisor Doug King, who is also the Nottingham Public Works Director, said that bids for the project will be received until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at the township office at 909 Sugar Run Road. At that time, the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud. Following, those bids may be held by the township for a period not to exceed 45 days from the date they were opened.

The board is hopeful that work can begin on the expansion project by mid-year.

In other business, the board of supervisors:
 Upon recommendation from the Planning Commission, appointed James Patterson and Robert Hutton to that board. Patterson will complete the remainder of a 4-year term ending January 2017. Hutton will complete the remainder of a 4-year term ending January 2020.
 Announced that the Planning Commission has received the first draft of the new zoning ordinance, which was prepared by Township Planner John Trant, who will attend the March 8 planning workshop to start a review of the draft.
 Acknowledged receipt of a letter from Protectors of Mingo member Ron Ramsey regarding the conditional use status and validity of the proposed Ram Farms Deep Mine site along Mingo Creek Road.
 Acknowledged receipt of a proposed intergovernmental agreement in the draft stage between Washington County and Nottingham Township. The agreement is in regards to continued funding of the township’s single stream recycling site.
 Notified residents of the beginning of construction of the Venetia Road bridge replacement project. The first phase of the PennDot plan to replace the bridge over Peters Creek between the Village of Hackett and the Borough of Finleyville will involve replacing the sewer lines. Andrew Glavin, Operations Manager and engineer at Beech Construction, Inc. will be in charge of this phase of the bridge project, which will replace the 1-lane bridge with a wider 2-lane one.
