West Newton Center for Active Adults, 103 E. Main St., in West Newton, can be reached at 724-872-4976. The manager is Jody Geletko.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Call to receive our monthly email, then decide what days you would join us for lunch. Lunch reservations are due one week before each Tuesday.

The center has a full beauty shop, Tuesday through Friday. Phone and ask for Judy. Daily card playing, pool, Wii bowling, card bingo at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, monthly grocery bingo, and speakers are part of what we offer regularly.

Below is our schedule of events for October:

October 18 - Lunch and a Show - Mark Davis entertaining, $5.  Tickets in advance required. Call 724-872-4976 or stop in and pay for your ticket. Lunch is at noon and the show is at 1 p.m. Lunch is pork roast with gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, dessert, drinks.

October 18 - Monthly Casino Trip - Wheeling. Cost is $25 for bus; the casino gives you $25 of free play. Call the center at 724-872-4976 to make your reservation and mail your check. Cancellations accepted only if you replace yourself.

October 9 and October 26 - Lady Luck Casino Trips - Come and eat lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the center, donation collected for lunch then $10 payment collected by Lady Luck and returned to you in the form of a gift certificate. $20 free play. The van holds 14 people, so call 724-872-4976 and make your reservation the Tuesday before each trip to make your RSVP. Van departs at 12:30 p.m. for Lady Luck and at 5 p.m. for the return trip home.

October 13 – Guest Speaker - 11 a.m. Sara Schmukur, Vice President of Fund Development for Mon Valley Hospital, will be our speaker and you are also invited to make reservations to join us for lunch.

October 19 - Coffee and Canvas - Two art teachers will help you paint a wonderful Halloween canvas. $20 for the canvas, instruction, and all paint supplies. Sessions are 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 724-872-4976 to RSVP.

 October 20 - Flu Shots – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Free for most insurances. Please bring photo identification and all insurance cards.

October 31 - Halloween Party - Call the center at 724-872-4976 for details and to make your reservation.
